I’ve always been fascinated with words and their multiple meanings. When I came up with the name Know Bounds, it seemed to encapsulate many of the ideas that drive my practice:
Know where you are bound. The word “bound” can indicate direction, as in “homeward bound.” It’s important to have a direction in life by identifying core needs and values and setting goals. By aligning your actions to a positive direction, you can move towards the life that you want with clarity.
Know what your bounds are. Bounds can also mean limits. It’s important to identify limiting beliefs and behaviors that can keep you from achieving life goals. You can take steps to resolve factors that are limiting your life.
Know how to set boundaries. Once you are clear on your goals and core values, you are in a better position to know where and how to spend your time and energy. You know when to say yes and when to say no.
Rebound. Many factors in life can require us to rebound – loss of a job or a loved one, a stressful event, a geographic move, or adjusting to life after recovery from an addiction to alcohol or drugs. When we’ve hit bottom we have to know how to bounce back.
Bound ahead. Bound can also mean to move forward with leaping strides. When you know your goals, have a direction in life, and effectively deal with limitations, you can move rapidly towards the life you want. Have an action plan to take steps and measure your progress.
